glitter. garden. garbage., mixed media on fabric and wooden pallets, 2015
Solo show at Take Courage Gallery, New Cross, London, 2015
"glitter. garden. garbage. is concerned what a painting is, and what it can be. Using the language of the un-monumental, the deconstructed paintings appear on the verge of collapse. The ephemerality blurs the boundaries between art and garbage. The ruins of past paintings are hand-stitched unevenly, revealing the structure, stripping back the illusory window to the bones of the painting. Almost a ‘means of laying bare a truth buried beneath layers of false romantic aesthetics.’1 The work appears to be unfinished, touching the moment of near completion but sinking back into ruin: seductive but ultimately referencing the environmental impact of the hyper-consumer condition of the developed world. Creating a sense of attraction and repulsion, the work addresses consumer desires and presents the reality behind the seductive facade."
